Summer is inching closer! For many of us we have a few weeks to go until our children are home for the Summer. Make Do Art Studio has a fabulous line up for our Summer series at the studio and we'd love to have your child join us for a week of camp. Below is our Flyer and also click here to register!
As most of you are aware of, Make Do has expanded! Darling Letterpress, who occupied the front of our building at 5300 Foster, has moved on to other things, and our art studio has just doubled in size! We are thrilled to now occupy their beautiful space, in which we are opening a Waldorf and Reggio inspired play space that connects with our art studio. We are calling this new venture Make Do Art + Play! When you visit, you will have access to both spaces- our front space on Foster will hold an array of lovely, open ended toys (think blocks, play silks, play kitchen, dolls, wooden figures, magnatiles, non-messy art and science invitations, etc.) and our back space on Francis will hold our messier art and sensory projects (rainbow rice bin, clay, slime, painting, and lots more). We are so excited to have more space and to be open for longer, more consistent hours. Our schedule from September-May will be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10-2. Our summer schedule will look a bit different due to our summer camps.
Our opening party for Make Do Art + Play will be Saturday April 14th from 10-12! Join us at the grand opening of our new play space and art studio at 5300 SE Foster. $8/child, $6 sibling and grownups free (you are also welcome to use any previously purchased play passes). Come build with blocks, cook in our pretend kitchen, find treasures in our rainbow rice bin, make art, and play! We will have lots of deals on play passes, art kits, a raffle and more! We hope to see you there and in the weeks to come!

Well, what a wonderful whirlwind these last 4 months have been! We are wrapping up our fall term and getting ready to take a short break to spend time with our families and get inspired for our next term of classes. However, we do have a couple events coming up this week!
Tuesday, December 19th from 6:30-8:30, we will be hosting our very first Make Do Market! Some of you might not be aware that Ashley and I sell a full line of art kits for kids- all projects that are kid tested at the studio, are a blast to make, and have lovely results to boot. We have sold them at a few art fairs around the town, most notably at Crafty Wonderland last weekend, where we received oodles of praise and sold out of quite a few options! It was such a pleasure to meet other parents and educators who were so excited about our kits, and it confirmed to us the demand to have quality art kit options at affordable prices. All the being said, we decided to open up our studio to a little holiday shopping for you! Come swing by anytime from 6:30-8:30 and pick up a kit or two. We have a wide range of options for a variety of ages- most kits are great for kids ages 2-13, although I am sure some grownups in your life wouldn't mind weaving a wall hanging ;). Some of our kits are: sew your own rainbow unicorn purse, make your own galaxy slime, decorate a tree, make a crown, build a fairy house- and so many more!
And then Friday, December 22nd we have a class for kids ages 5+. We will be hosting a gift making workshop from 10-1pm. We aim to have each child make about 4 different projects, which will be perfect for gifting to family and friends! $40/child, $35 sibling. Class includes hot cocoa and a light snack. You can register under our workshops tab here.
I hope you all have a wonderful winter break! Feel free to email us if you have any suggestions or ideas for future activities and classes. We are looking to expand our offerings in the winter and would love to hear what you are interested in seeing at Make Do.

Today was our very first class in our studio, Make Do After School, and we all had such a blast! Our after school classes are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4:15- 5:30, for kids ages 5+up. Our fall session is from September 18th- December 13th, and cost $75/month or you can pay for the full term at a 10% discount ($270). Our Monday classes are full, but we still have space in our Wednesday session, which starts 9/20.
Our first class was so fun and full of creative activity! The kids made really awesome masks, I love them all so much! There were dogs, narwhals, unicorns, and batman, as well as all sorts of other make-believe characters and creatures. We used cardboard, tempera paint and sticks, oil pastels, washi tape, ping pong balls, pom poms, sharpies, and gold brads to hold things together. And glue guns of course.
We also discussed with the kids the projects they wanted to make in the future in our after school classes. Since we will have the same group of kids until December, it will let us delve deeply into lots of different creative projects. One of my favorite things about being an art teacher is getting to know the kids individually and getting the opportunity to follow their lead. By listening to their input and choosing projects that interest the children the most, we get to facilitate the child's innate artistic abilities and guide them into an intrinsic state of creative flow. And also, kids just happen to have the best ideas ever! We had requests for cape making, habitat creating, dinosaur necklaces, costume making of all kinds, and name tags. And I am pretty sure we can check all of those off by the end of the term.
We are so excited to have found a permanent brick and mortar location for Make Do. Our new location will be in the Foster Powell neighborhood at 5301 SE Francis st. Classes and camps will begin there starting the last week of August. The new studio will allow us to offer so much more than we could before- open studios, weekend classes, birthday parties, ladies art night, parents night out and more! We need your support getting our new location off the ground, so we started an Indiegogo campaign to help offset the costs of our move and to help us paint, stock, and furnish our new location.
The campaign has lots of great perks offered- think of it as pre-paying for classes and open studios- but at a discount! If you buy through our Indiegogo site, you will get $11 off 3 open studio visits, $25 off a birthday party, and right now we have a special buy one open studio pass get one free- a savings of $12! Please visit our campaign to learn more about what our new studio will offer, see lots of fun photos of our previous camps and classes, and to check out those awesome perks.
Thanks for reading and we can't wait to meet all of you in our new studio soon!

Our new studio space is in the works, and we are so excited to join the Foster-Powell neighborhood! We will be offering all our normal pop-ups and camps we currently offer plus so much more- open studios, birthday parties, ladies' art night, preschool and toddler classes, after school classes, weekend events, and parents' date night. If you are interested, please fill out this survey to help us finalize our fall schedule and offerings:
We will also be launching a Indiegogo campaign in the coming week (with lots of special perks) to help us get our new location started. We will post the details of that here and on our Facebook page once it is live.
Thank you for all your support!

We are very excited to offer art pop-ups throughout the summer. These pop-up art sessions are one day events on Wednesdays throughout the summer. In these sessions, kids can start and finish a project in a specific medium. We will have sewing, painting, costume making, and more!
We are hoping this will be a great opportunity for kids to work on their art and sewing skills, without the commitment of a full week camp. All pop-ups are for kids ages 5+ up. You can register your camper on our pop-up page in the menu bar.
We are so excited to be hosting three session of summer camp this year! Our projects are planned, our supplies are being purchased, and we are getting ready to welcome some amazing kids to our space to make art, learn new skills, and create all sorts of magic with us this summer.
Since spots are limited, I recommend signing up as soon as possible to ensure your child gets a spot. Please see the CAMP tab on our website to sign up and learn more!
