Make Do After School!

September 18, 2017 by Michelle Lamanet

Today was our very first class in our studio, Make Do After School, and we all had such a blast! Our after school classes are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4:15- 5:30, for kids ages 5+up. Our fall session is from September 18th- December 13th, and cost $75/month or you can pay for the full term at a 10% discount ($270). Our Monday classes are full, but we still have space in our Wednesday session, which starts 9/20.

Our first class was so fun and full of creative activity! The kids made really awesome masks, I love them all so much! There were dogs, narwhals, unicorns, and batman, as well as all sorts of other make-believe characters and creatures. We used cardboard, tempera paint and sticks, oil pastels, washi tape, ping pong balls, pom poms, sharpies, and gold brads to hold things together. And glue guns of course.

We also discussed with the kids the projects they wanted to make in the future in our after school classes. Since we will have the same group of kids until December, it will let us delve deeply into lots of different creative projects. One of my favorite things about being an art teacher is getting to know the kids individually and getting the opportunity to follow their lead. By listening to their input and choosing projects that interest the children the most, we get to facilitate the child's innate artistic abilities and guide them into an intrinsic state of creative flow. And also, kids just happen to have the best ideas ever! We had requests for cape making, habitat creating, dinosaur necklaces, costume making of all kinds, and name tags. And I am pretty sure we can check all of those off by the end of the term.

We would love have your school-age child join us on Wednesdays! Sign up or send us an email if you have any questions!

Hope to see you at the studio soon!
